Slashdot is reporting that the FBI has taken down the IndyMedia servers. (That link still doesnt work). See the message at IndyMedia Italy.
For those that don't know, IndyMedia plays host to articles, stories, and galleries regarding activism. They had some pretty good coverage of the RNC protests. I'd imagine the FBI took the hard-drives in order to investigate some anarchist group the website covered, but thats purely speculation.

I guess RAN has a pretty good relationship with IndyMedia, so this was the talk of the office on Friday. One rumor is that there were some pictures up showing either police officers or FBI agents undercover--in essence, blowing their secret identity.
As you probably don't know, RAN is actually under federal subpoena right now to turn over a lot of our own documents. Though it's just paper they want now, as web developer I've been asked to find a distributed solution so that our site can't be taken down by seizing a single server. So this is indeed an issue near and dear to me.
